It’s a little late, but it’s finally here! Those of you who attended First Church of the Nazarene in Sterling a couple weeks ago have already heard it live. This is the fourth recording for the upcoming album; give it a listen and tell me about it! :)

Lyrics are after the jump.

Lyrics:

God might kill me, but I have no other hope
He is within me and I hold nothing to scope

I am dead to all my own decisions
I am dead to all my “human rights”

I give it all to You cause none of it is worth anything to me
Compared to the glory of Your grace; it sets me free
Love me with the depth of the sea; come and stretch me till I’m buckling at the knees
I need You more than anything; You set me free

(Free me)
Please come stay with me
I can’t believe in me without You
Don’t let me be
I need You now

I will not be swayed by my own imperfections
I’ll place my faith in my Savior’s resurrection

I am dead to all the sins I’ve made
I’m alive because of my Savior’s grave

I give it all to You cause none of it is worth anything to me
Compared to the glory of Your grace; it sets me free
Love me with the depth of the sea; come and stretch me till I’m buckling at the knees
I need You more than anything; You set me free

(Free me)
Please come stay with me
I can’t believe in me without You
Don’t let me be
I need You now

I give it all to You cause none of it is worth anything to me
Compared to the glory of Your grace; it sets me free
Love me with the depth of the sea; come and stretch me till I’m buckling at the knees
I need You more than anything; You set me free

The anger of my Lord
Lasts only for a moment
The favor of my Lord
Forever holds

  1. Musically — Awesome!  I love the harmonies and guitar.  I could definitely imagine hearing this on the radio!

I don’t understand the first 2 lines of the song.  Do you care to enlighten me?

  2. Thanks, Keith! :)

The first two lines come from Job 13:15:

14 Why do I put myself in jeopardy and take my life in my hands?
15 Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.
16 Indeed, this will turn out for my deliverance, for no godless man would dare come before him!

  5. Awesome!  You have just raised the bar for yourself.  You have done some great stuff in the past (of course Tribute will always be my favorite) but I believe this is the most professional sounding recording you’ve made.  The vocals are great. They lyrics are great. The arrangement is great. Amber’s voice really shines on this.  This could get radio air time if it got to the right people.
I recognized the Job reference, but Keith’s question may show that the wording of the first phrase, really just the first four words should be tweaked to make the reference more obvious.
I love the line “I can’t believe in me with you.”  That’s great stuff.

  6. Sorry, sent the comment before I read it – left out the “out” – “can’t believe in me with out you.”

  7. Thanks, Dad!  That means a lot to me; that’s greater praise than I think I’ve ever gotten from you. :)

I have to admit that I worded the first few lines the way I did to actively provoke some controversy (and possibly even some confusion), in hopes that people will ask and research the meaning of the song.  If you run “God might kill me, but I have no other hope” through Google, the first thing you’ll get is the Job reference.  In fact, that specific wording is what inspired me to write the song.

  8. Its wonderful! I could totally imagine hearing that on the radio. It reminded me a lot of casting crowns who I love! I totally got the reference to Job right away but Luke and Matthew didn’t  so it started a wonderful conversation with the boys who at 13 and 10 also loved it. They heard me start to play it and asked me to restart it, then afterwords asked if I could get them the cd LOL

  13. I forgot how great you both can sing.  Maybe I should ask for some backups on our new album?

  16. For those of you who don’t know, Tony is an amazing songwriter, vocalist, and an excellent musician, not to mention being an all-around great guy.

He was an original and integral member of Crossfade for their debut album (which is excellent, by the way).

Recently, he’s started a new Christian band called The Undivided, and they rock hard.  I’d encourage everyone to check it out:
